I have run across some scholarship that suggests that El and Elohim were commonly used by the Canaanites prior to the Israelites migrating to the region from Egypt.

If this is true, then El was a common Canaanite title for the Creator and god of the gods. Elohim would then be El and the gods that served El, or the allies of El, which to me would be God and the angels that did not rebel.

The Israelites would have known the name Yahuveh, but evidently, the Yahwist source has been edited and now Canaanite terms like El, Elohim, Adonai and others are used.

My question is, have you seen any evidence that the Canaanites influenced the Israelites after they occupied Canaanite land, after their migration from Egypt? It appears that the Israelites adopted many Canaanite customs. Thanks.
